Lesson 8 - Explaining the Trinity: Constantine and Nicaea

Jul 28, 2024    Rick Carmickle

What do we mean when we say, “God is Trinity?” How did the church resolve disputes that were caused by heresies on this issue? When the church leaders met at the Council of Nicaea, what did they decide? And did they get it right? Soon after Constantine secures the throne, he issues the Edict of Milan that ends the persecutions and makes Christianity legal. We will discuss the decisive events when Christianity’s status changed from widely persecuted in the Roman world to a legal religion, and free to practice without constraints. With this freedom came the ability to resolve doctrinal disputes and bring order to its teachings.
