Lesson Five - “The Reformation Gives Birth to a New World”
This week we will continue our review of church history following the Reformation. A profoundly influential result of the Reformation was the opportunity for older accepted truths to be reevaluated and debated. Martin Luther was not the only one to challenge accepted Roman Catholic doctrine and practices, and its influence in Europe. The political, intellectual, and social effects of the Reformation created new challenges for Protestant believers. The heirs of the Reformers found allies and enemies in the world of philosophy, theology, science, and politics. All this gave rise to the changing social structures of society. In this way, the Reformation gave birth to the modern world in which we presently live. In this class, we will discuss how faithful believers met these new challenges.
