Lesson Eight: Christ and Culture: Francis Schaeffer

In the mid-twentieth century, at a time when modern culture began to exhibit the effects of  philosophical skepticism and theological liberalism, evangelicals began to step up to the  intellectual challenges. J. Gresham Machen, Carl Henry, and others offered a forceful response. But the most widely recognized intellectual leader was Francis Schaeffer, whose works are still influential. We will review the substance of his three foundational books, The God Who Is There, Escape from Reason, and He is There and He is Not Silent. Schaeffer identified the cultural currents that saturate modern thinking and offers a powerful critique of those beliefs. And he shows why there are good and sufficient reasons for the Christian faith.
